The FA has declared that all FA Cup third round ties will be delayed by one moment as part of a mental health effort.
Even theHeads Up campaign – earlier this season, established by the FA – will see constituting replays, all 32 ties , than their timeslots.
TheRequire a Minute initiative, in partnership with Public Health Englands Every Mind Matters programme, is aimed to raise awareness of the significance of mental health, both independently and in encouraging friends and family members.
Whilst delaying kick-off times by 60 seconds is a simple idea, it provides a powerful platform for us and our Heads Up charity associates to provide a vital message on psychological wellbeing, said FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.
We all know that men in particular could be unwilling to talk about the subject, so it is important that people use football as a vehicle to highlight the significance of mental fitness.
TheHeads Up effort – led by The Duke of Cambridge – will culminate at the FA Cup final in May and is visible through all levels of mens and womens soccer in England this year.
Its fitting that the first big Heads Up campaign moment should be linked to this Emirates FA Cup Third Round – a signature moment in any football season, said Godric Smith, chair of the Heads Up campaign, said.
The Emirates FA Cup is a contest for everybody – for clubs large and small – and we wish to use its capacity to help show that we all have mental health and we could all take a minute to concentrate on how we could begin to enhance it.
We are very grateful for all of the support from across the soccer familymembers, from our mental health charities – and to Public Health Englands Every Brain Matters for their excellent partnership.
The draw for the FA Cup third round will occur on Monday evening the defending champions.
